About NTUEE
The department has been undergoing several organizational changes since 1992. The trend is two-fold: 1) for the entire EE and CS groups to move up in the university academic hierarchy and 2) for the research units to form autonomous graduate institutes. Moving up the university hierarchy is to position the EE and CS groups at vantage to compete for university resources. Forming research-centric institutes is for more efficient and flexible use of resources in hope to increase the research throughput.

- 2001 Founding of the Graduate Institute of Electronics Engineering
- 2006 Founding of the Graduate Institute of Biomedical Electronics and Bioinformatics
Going towards the trend, the EE group gradually evolves into a hierarchical structure, stemmed from the EE Department are the Graduate Institute of EE, IPO, Communication Engineering, Electronics Engineering and BEBI. This is also referred to as the blossom model (or the one-department-multiple-graduate-institute model).
The department, in this structural sense, is responsible for undergraduate teaching and administrative affairs The graduate institutes are responsible for research and graduate student affairs. Some graduate institutes are further divided into a number of research groups. The table below summarizes the research groups associated with each institute.

The EE group aims to continue the development by the current model. The Graduate Institute of Computer Engineering is planned to blossom next.
