Research Summary:
Mathematical optimization and information technology applying to areas of strategic importance to the society, including Smart Grid – intermittent renewable (wind and solar) integration to the grid, auction methods for electricity markets, and microgrids; Smart and Green Buildings – optimized energy management, HVAC fault detection and diagnosis, crowd guidance in building emergencies, and eco communities; Intelligent Manufacturing – self-optimizing factories, planning, scheduling, and coordination of design, manufacturing, and service activities; and Mathematical optimization of large-scale mixed-integer problems, and decision-making under uncertain, distributed, or antagonistic environments.
